Food…

Food is both a necessity and the enemy as anyone who has EVER dealt with weight issues well knows.
I feel that I am in desparate need of a reality check on my eating habits. First, I honestly believe that I am consuming food that is in compliance with my eating plan (a low g.i. plan), however, I am quite sure that my portions and timing are WAY out of control. I was eating all day long. Most days, I would stop eating around 8 pm (I usually go to bed around 11), but not all days. Most days, I would not have seconds, but then again, my firsts were probably way too huge. I have been using smaller plates and smaller utensils, but…. And, water. Let’s get started on the water. I have been upping my intake of caffeine (namely, coffee) a lot over the last two and a half months or so. Ok, let me be totally honest… not just coffee… coffee drinks! Yes… latte concoctions that probably have the caloric content needed for an entire week (ok, not that many…). Somehow, I do not recall when or how, I went from the occasional skinny latte to one made with half-and-half, whipped cream, and full sugared caramel syrup. Yummy, yes. Diet friendly? Certainly not. Not only that, but I went from having one of those delectable concoctions once a week (at most) to nearly every day…not a single…not a double…but, usually a triple! Egads. No wonder my weight loss stalled… and started to creep up. Compound that with my lackadaisical exercise efforts and yep, I’m still over 200 pounds and heading in the wrong direction.
So, today, marking the start of a fresh week, I am journaling my intake for the day. Probably will not post it, but will definitely keep it. I’m going to do this for the next 3 days (minimum) and then twice a week to keep it real. (I tried fitday again today, but the slow connection we have is too frustrating for me.)
Water? Yes, I switched talking about water to talking about coffee. My water (pure, plain H2O) has been practically nonexistent. In fact, this is how bad… If I could not have something to drink (except water), I would often not drink anything. at. all! Talk about backwards. Today, I have a 32-oz bottle (with oz and mL markings) with me. I am trying to empty it twice today… so far, it isn’t going well, but the day is still very young. I took this idea from Jenny over at Big Slice who hopes the bottle mocking her from her counter top will get her to drink more.
So, day one of the rebirth of my quest has begun.
