End of September

So, I followed through with my plan for the week! Yay! I did my Power 90 sculpt video (yes, with the lunge modification and pushups from me knees!) on Mon/Wed/Friday. I did a beginning HIit workout with the recumbent stationary cycle on Tue/Thur. On Tue/Fri I did the Ab Ripper workout (the 100, and yes, completed all 100!!).

Saturday was my wedding anniversary (15 wonderful years!). A was gone for the day and night, but P was still around all day and night. I admit that I did not workout all weekend.

I have to say that I am really proud of myself for following through on this. After all, a week is an eternity to commit to something for me. Yay me!

The coming week (Oct 1-7), I’m going to change it a bit… Abs two times still, sculpt 3 times, and HiiT 2 times, and one outside activity (long walk, or family bike ride).

I am Still Here!

Just in case anyone had wondered, I am still around. The days, and evenings, around here are packed full of “stuff” that we have to do or places we have to be at. Honestly, it is rather tiring, but I would not give any of it up. Not just yet.

Both of my daughters are involved in sports! A is playing ball at school, with practices every day, games twice a week, plus various appointments during the week (after practices). P is playing soccer and still in ballet. Between the two of them, we are busy running here there and everywhere. This is the first time every that I have missed one of A’s games on purpose! (I missed one when I was in the thralls of the flu, and one when P was very sick.) It was a conflict of activities, a basketball game (Away) at the same time as a soccer game (Home). What do people with more than two children do? And my kids are not even close in age!

So, while I have been shuttling kids here there and yonder, I have totally slacked off in the fitness realm. My ankle & foot still hurt daily, so I baby it a lot. Today, I entered my “enough of this!” phase and pulled out my Power 90 disc and did the level 1/2 sculpt workout. With two modifications. First, all my push-ups were on my knees (but better than ANY set I have done in the past). Second, I found that the walking lunges REALLY irritated my foot, but stationary lunges are tolerable. So I did stationary lunges, but twice as many per side as the walking lunges have you do.

My plan for the week is to alternate the Power 90 sculpt video (with my lunge modification) with a cycling HIiT workout (since cycling does not seem to irritate my ankle). I will also do the Ab Ripper workout twice.

I am resisting the temptation to add all sorts of other activities. I think that is part of my past failures. I like to plan. I like to make lists. I start them. I fail to follow through, or complete said plans and lists. My thought is to make it simple, and light. There is no reason to not finish now. And, it is for one week. Then, I will make a plan for the following week. The ultimate goal? Why, of course, it is to lose weight, gain strength and fitness, and be healthy.

I also will plan to post about once a week. Hopefully, it will turn out to be a lot more. I just want to avoid the once a month or once every three months type of posting that I have been up to lately.

Here I go.

Been Busy – an update

Wow. It is hard to believe that it has been this long since I last posted here. Oops. It is also a great example of how “later” just never seems to arrive. “I’ll exercise later,” or “I’ll absolutely do this tomorrow,” or other such statements that we all make at some point of another about some thing or other.

I have been busy, but I have also procrastinated on nearly everything lately. August seemed to fly by. Honestly, I’m hard-pressed to believe it wasn’t skipped entirely this year!

The kids started back to school last week which means lots of chauffeuring for me. Little one has preschool three times a week, soccer twice a week, and dance class once a week. Add to it, Big one has basketball practice every day after school which requires a pick up to get home and physical therapy for an “injury” three times a week. This all translates into about 17 round trips into town each week! Just for kid-shuttling!!! One way is about 12-15 minutes (depending on whether you get caught behind tractors or combines or not)! That’s roughly 408-510 minutes per week, or 6.8-8.5 HOURS of sitting on my butt driving a car! Yikes. I knew it was a lot, but to actually calculate it–OMG! This, of course, does not include the time spent waiting at pick ups/drop offs or any other errands that may occur. And, with gasoline this week at about $3.15/gallon here…that’s a lot of gas. Anyhow, I love to have the kids busy with things that they love, especially when it makes them active! Though, I often wonder how families with more kids or kids closer in age (I have two, eight years between them) coordinate everything.
We have been going on bike rides as a family which is quite fun! The littlest one is still on training wheels, but is heeding instructions well. We live in a rural area and have no place to ride other than the road which scares me, but we ride to the dirt roads about a mile away and there is far less traffic there. At least the road is fairly flat and very straight so we can see vehicles (and hear them too) while they are still pretty far away.

Alex and I had started taking walks in the early morning before Ray left for work (and while Phoebe still slept), but that is gone with the start of school.

This week, I tripped a bit coming down the stairs and twisted my ankle (yes, the already injured side) which has made walking almost painful, but mostly awkward.

I have been sailing through the summer in a kind of “by the seat of your pants” type of way. Trying to make good choices, but indulging either too often or too much. Which is why I now make that proclamation that I will buckle down and get serious. I’m back at the point I was when I slipped up and got off track. This time I intend to not get derailed so badly. Sure, we all slip up now and then, the key is to get right back at it (right away and not hem&haw about it for months).

So here I go!
